ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, community residents, and visitors.
  • Always wear appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to sun protection, hearing protection, safety shoes and high visibility clothing.Β 
  • Understands the District’s Purchasing Policies and Guidelines; works with Supervisor and Contract Administrator with all aspects of bidding process including developing clear scopes of work for bidding.Β 
  • Manages assigned landscape projects to ensure contractor compliance with scope, time and budget parameters for the project.
  • Manages all aspects of the District’s Landscape Turf Conversion Program including the construction of new conversions as well as the maintenance of existing conversions.Β 
  • Understands and helps to execute the District’s Temporary Access Program.Β 
  • Protects District landscape and associated facilities from work or encroachment by other entities (e.g., utility contractors, County projects, HOA projects etc.), provide direction and review their work.
  • Ensure proactive communication of expectations, adherence to Temporary Access Permits, and satisfactory, timely restoration.Β 
  • Identifies, inventories and addresses improvements to landscaping and facilities in the parkways system. Examples include shrub/tree bed enhancements, turf restoration, utility pedestal repairs, sidewalk repairs etc.
  • Works closely with Parkways Irrigation Technicians, landscape maintenance contractors and other PROS Sections to achieve successful landscape project results. Β 
  • Establishes productive relationships with industry partners such as Douglas County Public Works, utility companies/contractors, landscape/construction contractors, landscape architects etc.
  • Proficiency of relevant we-based software programs.Β 
  • May assist with or lead a team with the construction or maintenance of various landscape projects.
  • May assist with locating utilities throughout the Parkways systems.
  • May directly assist with smaller maintenance assignments such as litter control, weed management, temp sign enforcement, sod damage collection, sidewalk cleanup etc.Β 
  • May assist in the training and/or supervision of subordinate employees.
  • Active member of the District’s snow removal program.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:Β 

  • High School graduate or completion of G.E.D. (college education preferred), with a minimum of four years of progressive experience in landscape maintenance industry or related field.Β 
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Β 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated desire to learn.
  • Broad knowledge of landscaping and irrigation construction/maintenance.
  • Ability to use landscape related equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.Β 
  • Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.Β 
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, including comprehending, following, and transmitting written and verbal instructions.Β 
  • Establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Represent the District in a professional and composed manner.Β

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.Β 
  • Colorado Qualified Supervisor Applicators License or be able to obtain within the first year.

Manages projects and assists in the supervision of outside contractors. May supervise seasonal employees as assigned.Β

Examples of field equipment to be used: tractors, skid steer loaders, pickup trucks, hand and power tools,Β snow removal equipment, pressure washer, spray units, truck-trailer combination. Examples of office equipment to be used: computers, software, phones, Microsoft products, printers/copiers.Β

WORK SCHEDULE

Generally, the work schedule is between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work schedule will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events, programs, meetings, and staffing levels, and will include some evening, early morning, weekend, and overtime hours.

This position is part of the Metro District on-call/weekend schedule for snow removal and may be part of the Irrigation on-call rotation. This position is required to be on-call and work nights and weekends as scheduled by the Parks Snow Crew Leaders. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
